Changing the "norm"
that beloved clothes are discarded.

It's been five years since we began a service that provides reused school uniforms for children who couldn't attend their entrance ceremonies due to not having one.
Through working in the clothing industry, I’ve come to understand a harsh truth: countless clothes are mass-produced and thrown away. No matter how much value we try to add to discarded items by reusing them, the pile of waste never seems to shrink.
It's as if the fashion industry is designed to create clothes destined to be discarded.
That’s why we launched the Kodai project—with the hope of breaking this “normal” and creating clothes that are made to last, not to be thrown away.

Breaking the norm and preserving tradition—our vision
for clothes that stand the test of time.

At Kodai, the answer to creating clothes that aren't discarded lies in traditional Japanese tailoring techniques.
Despite the remarkable quality of Japan’s sewing methods, particularly the craftsmanship of traditional Japanese clothing (wasai), the industry in Japan is plagued by low wages, leading to a decline in skilled artisans.
The deterioration of these techniques isn't just a loss for tailoring but also for other connected traditions, like dyeing techniques. This is a deeper problem faced by the Japanese sewing industry.
By creating valuable, timeless garments using these precious skills, we hope to not only reduce waste but also ensure that these traditional techniques are properly recognized and valued.

Our "Timeless Hakama Pants" are more than just clothes that
won’t be discarded—they are carriers of tradition that will continue through the ages.

Breaking the norm and preserving tradition—
our vision for clothes that stand the test of time.

Why denim? There’s a reason. Denim ages beautifully, deepening in color and texture over time, molding itself to the wearer’s body with every use, creating a bond of affection.
To ensure our clothes endure, we chose Kojima denim from Okayama, renowned for its durability and quality. With a design inspired by the traditional Japanese garment, the hakama, we’ve brought this vision to life using the knowledge and craftsmanship of Japan’s finest sewing techniques.
